Desperate search underway for man after empty boat found in waters off NSW south coast

A desperate search is underway for a man in his 60s after his fishing boat was found empty and drifting off the south coast of NSW.

The boat was found drifting off the Illawarra coast on Friday night, with emergency services called to Windang Island near Warilla about 6.40pm.

Police were told a man in his 60s had been alone on the 4m Quintrex aluminium boat.

Police, Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue NSW, Surf Life Saving NSW and PolAir launched a search for the man on Friday night.

His vehicle and empty boat trailer were found in the Port Kembla boat ramp car park, with the air and sea search closed about 1am on Saturday.

Foot patrols were also carried out however the man has not yet been found.

The search resumed at 6am Saturday, with police officers, Marine Area Command, PolAir, Marine Rescue NSW, Surf Life Saving Club and SES members all looking for the man.
