*********** airline crew members allegedly ****** and robbed in Fiji

Two crew members of the *********** airline Virgin Australia were allegedly ****** and robbed in the Fijian city of Nadi during a night out in the early hours of News Year’s Day.

Fiji’s Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew confirmed police were investigating the incidents involving the crew members, a man and a woman, who were on a layover at the popular tourist destination at the time.

Fiji police said the woman was allegedly ****** and the man was robbed after leaving a nightclub in Nadi.

The man was taken to hospital and treated for facial injuries.

It is understood the incidents occurred outside the Bar One nightclub in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“Unfortunately, two of the crew members were victims of an alleged theft and ***** after exiting the nightclub trying to find their way back to the hotel,” Mr Chew said.

The crew members were due to fly out of the city the following day.

The airline has sent staff to Fiji to provide support to the crew members.

Viliame Gavoka, Fiji’s deputy prime minister and minister for tourism and civil aviation, expressed regret over the alleged incidents and said that a suspect known to the police for the alleged ******* assault had been questioned and that the investigation was ongoing.

He reiterated that these were two separate incidents of alleged theft and ******* assault which affected two different Virgin crew members.

Mr Gavoka said the crew were “in good health” and remained at a Fiji hotel in order to assist police with their investigations.

“They should return home before the end of the week,” he said.

“Our thoughts and concerns are with them and for their health and wellbeing.”

The South Pacific island nation of Fiji is a popular tourist destination and received 76,845 visitors in November, mostly from Australia, New Zealand and North America, according to the country’s tourism website.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was aware of the reports.
