Nineteen people arrested, including 13yo girl, after wild brawl breaks out on bus

A 13-year-old girl is among 19 people arrested after a wild and brutal brawl broke out on a bus in Adelaide’s inner-west, resulting in three people being rushed to hospital.

Shortly after 8.30am Wednesday morning, a group of people boarded a bus on West Terrace in Thebarton, inner-west Adelaide.

Soon after boarding, the group allegedly began violently brawling, which caused the bus driver, Gurwinder Singh, to stop the vehicle and pull over on the corner of George St.

He and two other passengers not involved in the fight disembarked the bus as Mr Singh called police.

Speaking to triple-0, Mr Singh said “the situation is getting worse” as blood-curdling screams could be heard in the background.

“More people can get stabbed or whatever … like, you know, they are fighting … seriously,” he said in the emergency call, 9News reported.

The fight spilt out onto the street, with witnesses allegedly seeing members of the brawling group throwing rocks and ripping seats off the bus and using them as weapons.

Mr Singh said he saw one passenger lying on the floor, and a police officer collecting strands of hair from the scene.

While Mr Singh was not injured in the fight, the driver window was damaged, rocks were thrown at the windshield and the bus door was smashed, with blood splattered on the vehicle.

A woman sustained head injuries during the fight and was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two others also sustained minor injuries and were transported to hospital.

Police were soon on the scene and arrested 19 people, including 10 men and nine women, the youngest just 13 years old.

The arrested people were charged with aggravated affray and property damage.

They have been also barred from public transport for a minimum of three months.

They have since been bailed and will appear at court at a later date.

“Investigations into the incident are continuing, with police still needing to speak to everyone involved once they are medically able,” a statement from SA Police read.

It’s understood police do not believe this was not a random attack, and the group of people were known to each other.
