DeSoto County former youth minister, coach indicted on ******* battery charge

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A former youth minister and basketball coach was indicted by a DeSoto County grand jury this week on one count of ******* battery of a child, according to DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton.

“While this is an ongoing case, and we must be careful not to disclose information that could compromise the victim’s privacy, we can confirm that the December Grand Jury of DeSoto County has indicted Lindsey Whiteside on the charge of ******* battery of a minor child by a person of trust or authority,” Barton said.

Though DA Barton kept most of the details regarding Whiteside’s case private, he did say that Whiteside held positions that put her in close proximity to minors.

“Prior to this indictment, Lindsey Whiteside served as a youth ministry leader and basketball coach — positions that carry a profound responsibility to protect and guide others,” Barton said.

As the DA’s office continues to build its case against Whiteside, Barton urges those affected by her actions to speak out.

“******* abuse and exploitation inflict lasting harm on victims, that often last for a lifetime. We understand that coming forward as a victim can be incredibly difficult, especially in cases involving trusted figures,” Barton said. “However, we urge anyone who may have been affected by this individual’s actions or who may have information related to this case to come forward. Every victim deserves to be heard, and our office is committed to ensuring their voices are not silenced.”
