Great Southern stars withdraw from WA team ahead of 2025 *********** Country Cricket Championships

WA has been dealt a big blow with multiple players, including Albany and Districts Cricket Association star all-rounder and reigning Tuck Waldron medallist Lincoln Joy, withdrawing from the 2025 *********** Country Cricket Championships tour.

Joy was named in the initial 12-man side to travel to South Australia on Thursday but was forced to withdraw after his troublesome knee injury, which he had surgery on earlier this year, curtailed his preparations.

The top-order batter has managed just two matches for Royals in the ADCA this season and said while it was tough to pull out of the tournament, he must prioritise his recovery.

“I’ve withdrawn due to knee soreness and swelling problems after games, and it was tough to pull out but I think it’s essential to take a side that’s healthy if you’re going to try to win it,” the 26-year-old said.

“Meniscus repair seems to be holding with gradual loading so I can hopefully have a strong base for recovery.

“I will be able to be managed at country week and hopefully we retain the title.”

Former Railways premiership players Zane Marwick (unavailable) and Julian Crudeli (hand) were also named in the initial squad but have both withdrawn.

Marwick currently plays in Geraldton and Crudeli plays for Williams in the Upper Great Southern Cricket Association.

Bunbury’s Bryn Bursill and Cody Ryan and Kalgoorlie’s Michael Nobel have been announced as their replacements.

The week-long tournament held in the Barossa Valley starts on Friday.

Each State will play five one-day matches and four T20 fixtures.
