Real Reason Overwatch Will Soon Make Fans Start Hating Marvel Rivals Without Blizzard Even Lifting a Finger

Ever since the release of NetEase Games’ Marvel Rivals on December 6th, it’s been an absolute nightmare for Overwatch 2 fans. From dropping player numbers to panic updates by Blizzard, it’s clear that the hero-shooter is facing pressure from its biggest rival in the industry.

Overwatch fans have been constantly calling out Blizzard and demanding that they make changes in the game to deal with the NetEase title. However, once the community realizes the issues that plague Marvel Rivals, they’ll start hating the game in a matter of minutes.

Overwatch‘s biggest rival is just a cheap clone

When Marvel Rivals was initially revealed, many expected it to pose a threat to the dominance of Overwatch 2 in the hero-shooter genre. However, now that the game is out, players believe it’s already game over for Blizzard, and NetEase has completely outclassed its hero shooter. But when you look closely and compare both games, that’s not the case.

The biggest issue with Marvel Rivals is that the game simply feels like Overwatch with brand-new characters, and they aren’t that different design wise like many had suggested in the beginning.

It’s not just the designs; even the hero abilities of the game look like a mashup of Overwatch characters. For example, Star-Lord is basically a mix of Tracer and Reaper, Squirrel Girl has the abilities of Junkrat, and Magneto’s shields look like a carbon copy of Reinhardt’s.

These similarities do not undermine NetEase’s efforts in any way or shape but make us wonder what exactly happened to originality. Even the game modes and maps feel similar to what we’ve seen from Blizzard in the NetEase game. Rivals bring many familiar modes we’ve all grown to love, such as pushing the objective and king of the hill.

If you spend a second at Tokyo 2099 in Rivals, you’ll instantly realize that it’s just way too similar to Overwatch‘s Hanamura. Heck, both of these maps have a similar layout and setting. All these similarities between both games make Rivals just too bland.

NetEase hero-shooter still has the potential to set itself apart

We can bash Marvel Rivals all day for copying one of the best hero shooters out there, but one can’t ignore the fact that it has just started. The game has the backing of one of the world’s best IPs and plenty of resources to make itself more unique.

One of the best ways Rivals can escape the clone allegations is by delivering a PvE mode that Blizzard failed to bring. Gamers were excited when Overwatch 2 was announced because of the potential of a PvE mode.

However, for some odd reason, Blizzard completely axed its plans for the mode. NetEase can pick up the pieces and attract players who aren’t fans of the competitive gameplay by offering a full-fledged PvE.

NetEase seriously needs to figure out ways to set its biggest game so far apart from the competition and win lost players back. An IP like Marvel has all the potential, and developers must use it; otherwise, Blizzard doesn’t have to worry about anything.

With that said, how do you think NetEase can make its hero-shooter more unique? Let us know in the comments below.
