Winter Hours for Museums, Archaeological Sites

As the vibrant colors of summer give way to the tranquility of winter, Santorini takes on a unique charm that invites you to explore its rich history and cultural treasures at a slower pace. From November 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, state-run archaeological sites and museums across Greece, including Santorini, will operate on their winter schedule. Here’s your guide to uncovering the island’s past during this serene season:

Step Back in Time: Archaeological Sites

• Archaeological Site of Akrotiri:
  Journey to the Bronze Age and walk through the streets of the ancient Minoan city famously preserved by volcanic ash. Open daily except Tuesdays, from 08:30 to 15:30. Admission: €6. Reserve your tickets online here or call 2286081939.
• Archaeological Site of Ancient Thera:
  Perched atop Mesa Vouno, this site offers breathtaking views along with remnants of Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine history.
  • November: Open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 08:30–15:30.
  • December–February: Open by appointment through the Cyclades Ephorate of Antiquities (Tel. 2286025405, 2286081939).
  • March: Open daily except Wednesdays. Admission: €3.

Explore Santorini’s Museums

• Museum of Prehistoric Thera:
  Admire the treasures of Akrotiri, including frescoes and artifacts that tell stories of Santorini’s ancient inhabitants. Open daily except Tuesdays, from 08:30 to 15:30. Admission: €3. Tel. 2286025405.
• Archaeological Museum of Thera:
  Currently closed for renovations, but stay tuned for updates! For inquiries, call 2286022217.
• Agia Triada Pyrgos Collection:
  Discover a unique collection of religious art and ecclesiastical relics in the picturesque village of Pyrgos.
  • Open daily except Tuesdays.
  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: 09:30–15:30.
  • Thursday: 11:00–15:30. Admission: €2. Tel. 2286034487.

Winter Specials & Important Notes

• Free Admission: EU residents aged 5-25, persons with disabilities, large families, and unemployed individuals enjoy free entry.
• Plan Ahead: Last entry is 20 minutes before closing time.

Seasonal Closures

While Santorini’s history is eternal, please note that all sites are closed on December 25th and 26th, January 1st, and March 25th. Regular hours apply on Epiphany (January 6th) and Clean Monday (March 11th).
