I’m Sky Lakota-******, and I’m an actor on Broadway. My favorite song is “***** and Rain” by James Taylor. I was in the back seat of my parents’ car when I first heard this song, when I was about maybe five years old. My dad was singing to it, and my dad was crying, and I didn’t quite understand what was going on. I had never seen my dad cry before. And then, later in life, I found out the significance of that song to my dad. My aunt, she passed away in a car accident at age 25. And the song that she was listening to was “***** and Rain” by James Taylor. My dad saved the cassette. The cassette made it out of the accident, which is wild . I think that James Taylor tells the truth in his lyrics. He’s sort of speaking about how life is so fragile and how you cannot take it for granted for a single moment. And I’m a person who’s had a lot of low moments in my life so I know how to swim the deep end. Especially during the pandemic, when we weren’t sure if Broadway was going to come back. I had to re-audition for the show “The Outsiders” that I’m in that’s coming to Broadway with “***** and Rain,” and I got my job back. So I owe a lot to James Taylor. (SINGING) “Oh, I’ve seen ***** and I’ve seen rain. Seen sunny days that I thought would never end. Seen lonely times when I could not find a friend.
