The Relentless Complains About The Killzone Crossover Sniper is a Holiday Gift No Arrowhead Dev Was Planning Post Christmas

Arrowhead Game Studios recently gave Helldivers 2 players the first major crossover with Guerrilla Games’ 2009 video game Killzone 2. The initial response to the crossover wasn’t the best as players were disappointed to see the outrageous prices. Arrowhead was able to cover it up by giving away free items but fans have now found another reason to hate on the crossover.

Due to poor response to the crossover, Arrowhead and Guerrilla Games decided to give away six unique items, which included the PLAS-39 Accelerator Rifle. Players had high expectations with this burst-fire plasma rifle, however, it has turned out to be a disappointment. Players on social media have complained that the weapon is underwhelming, particularly because of its medium armor penetrating trait.

A Helldivers 2 player has shared their honest review of the latest PLAS-39 Accelerator Rifle on the r/helldivers2 subreddit. The player pointed out that the weapon, which is labeled as a Sniper Rifle, is decent against Terminids. However, its damage against Automatons and Illuminate is very disappointing.

The weapon feels very weak because it doesn’t have a heavy armor penetrating trait. The explosive trait does make it better than some other weapons in the game but it’s not strong enough to be the best. Even the player mentioned that the purifier and charge are better substitutes for Illuminate missions.

Apart from this sniper rifle, two more weapons were added to the game: StA-11 SMG and StA-52 Assault Rifle. Since players were not happy with the pricing of the collaboration bundle, Arrowhead gave away not only the Accelerator Rifle but also the StA-11 SMG, AC-2 Obedient Helmet, AC-2 Obedient Armor, Defender Of Our Dream Cape, and Defender Of Our Dream Player Card.

Should Arrowhead Game Studios buff up such weapons?

Many would suggest that Arrowhead should buff up weapons like these to make them powerful against enemies. However, that would take away the challenging nature of the game. The studio revived the game’s hype by buffing up various fan-favorite weapons and Stratagems. The strategy was perfect as it convinced many players to reinstall the game and right after that, Arrowhead announced the Omens of Tyranny update at the Game Awards 2024.

Buffing up weapons is certainly not the right strategy as it will make the game repetitive and boring. In all fairness, there is no reason to buff the Accelerator Rifle since it works well against Terminids. Not all weapons in Helldivers 2 are meant to work against every enemy faction, and the Mortar Sentry is a good example of this.
