The 3 Heroes Everyone Was Clowning on During the First Week Ended Up Having the Highest Pick Rates Post-launch

Finding the right meta in any game can be a daunting task, but it’s especially challenging for games like Marvel Rivals, where team synergy and coordination are key to success. With 33 unique heroes available from the start, players were immediately faced with a multitude of choices.

This led to some heroes standing out as obvious powerhouses, while others were quickly dismissed as underperformers. However, what players thought in the first week wasn’t necessarily the whole story. Heroes like Bruce Banner/Hulk, Iron Man, and Wolverine are now proving that first impressions can be deceiving, as they’ve ended up with the highest pick rates in the game.

The surprising turnaround many Marvel Rivals players didn’t expect

When the game first launched on December 6th, players immediately began experimenting with different heroes and team-ups. Given the sheer number of available characters, it didn’t take long for the community to begin forming opinions about who was “good” and who was “bad” in the early stages.

During the first week, a consensus began to emerge that despite their popularity: Iron Man, Wolverine, and Hulk were not strong or relevant enough and needed some buffs. However, as the community spent more time with Marvel Rivals and explored different strategies, something unexpected happened.

The heroes who most players thought would be niche at best, started to show their true potential in the teamplay. The result? they are now the highest-picked characters in the game. So what changed? Players started to realize that if they used these heroes’ abilities in the team they could be strong.

Iron Man’s flying ability makes him one of the most annoying yet powerful characters to face. However, to get the best out of the hero, players need to understand their positioning on the map.

As for Wolverine, players have now realized that his dash can disrupt enemies and move them into a player’s crosshairs, making him a valuable addition to any team.

Lastly, why Bruce Banner? Because HULK SMASH. No, really, it’s because of how he becomes an indestructible force as a tank. Players are no longer dismissing any character and are now looking to find the best in each of them.

Marvel Rivals continues to evolve

As players continue to enjoy the game and learn more about the heroes, they realize that Marvel Rivals is a game where the meta can change at any point, especially with players finding new ways to utilize the hero’s abilities in teamplay and solo.

For heroes who were dismissed at first for being underwhelming, players are realising that their true strength is often hidden by team synergy or coordination. Additionally, the game has a special seasonal boost for various characters (when in a team-up).

So, what if this feature isn’t just a one-time thing (at release), but instead provides a boost to different characters each season? This will help give certain heroes the necessary power boost and keep the gameplay fresh and diverse. Overall, the team synergy shows how different heroes bring out the best in one another.

The lesson here is clear: don’t be too quick to dismiss a hero in Marvel Rivals. With the game’s deep system and player’s ability to be creative, a hero’s true strength is often unlocked only after players spend more time with them and discover how to tune their abilities into lethal combinations.

In the end, as the game continues to evolve, we can only wait and see which other underdog heroes might rise to the occasion, offering fresh strategies for players to master.
