deputy died by suicide in his Davenport home on Sunday night, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office announced.

According to the PCSO, Gregory Maynard, 32, was hired as a detention deputy in 2015.

Authorities believe that he died of a single self-inflicted gunshot on Dec. 15 at around 10:08 p.m.

Authorities said there were two others at the home when the suicide happened: an adult woman and a child—neither directly witnessed the shooting, and neither was related to Maynard, according to the sheriff’s office.

Maynard became a deputy sheriff in Jan. 2017 and was most recently assigned to Central District Patrol, where he was a dual-certified deputy sheriff.

PSCO says while they are investigating the suicide and waiting for a medical examiner’s report, they do not believe there was any foul play in Maynard’s death.
