Southern California man violently beaten by road rage driver

A Southern California man recalls the frightening moment he was violently attacked by a road rage driver and beaten unconscious.

Brian Seip, 60, said he’s lucky to be alive after the assault and hopes the attacker is caught soon.

Seip, a traffic control technician, was driving to work on Tuesday at around 5:45 a.m. as he traveled on Mariposa Road in Hesperia, which runs parallel to the 15 Freeway.

He said that’s when the driver of a silver pickup truck began antagonizing him — cutting him off, slamming on his brakes and nearly running him off the road.

Trying to diffuse the situation, Seip pulled over to let the suspect drive past him, but instead, the suspect also pulled over.

“He came on the same side of the road as me and cut me off,” Seip recalled. “I got out of my truck and asked, ‘What’s going on, why are you cutting me off?’ And he gets out of his truck with a pipe and hits me in the head. The next thing I knew, he was gone.”

Seip had been knocked unconscious and was left lying in the middle of the road. The assailant got back into his truck and fled the scene.

He was left bloodied and bruised, but when he regained consciousness, he was able to call his wife for help. She rushed him to the hospital where he received treatment and seven staples to close up his head wound.

Ultimately, Seip said he’s thankful to be alive and that the ordeal wasn’t worse.

“The situation shouldn’t have happened,” Seip told KTLA’s Rachel Menitoff. “He could have killed me.”

He described the attacker as a short man in his early to mid-20s with a silver pickup truck. He hopes the suspect is caught soon before another driver becomes the next target.

“Using force like that on me, it can happen to somebody else,” Seip said. “If word gets out enough and you get caught, I hope you get punished for what you did,” he said to the attacker.

The incident is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Anyone with information on the case can call 909-884-0156.
