Test drawn after Australia collapse, rain has final say

AUSTRALIA V INDIA: Day five of the third Test at the Gabba:

SCORE: Australia 445 and 7-89 declared. India 260 and 0-8. Match drawn.

SUMMARY: Australia bowled India out before collapsing in a screaming heap while chasing quick runs on another rain-marred day. The hosts’ only hope of victory was to set a total and dismiss India cheaply, but the visitors dominated with the ball. Jasprit Bumrah (3-18), Mohammed Siraj (2-35) and Akash Deep (2-28) made inroads. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey (18no) and captain Pat Cummins (22) threw the bat with gusto in T20 mode before the rain had the final say.

THE MOMENT: Bumrah went past India legend Kapil Dev for the most Test wickets in Australia by an Indian in history when he had Marnus Labuschagne caught behind for one. Bumrah is now out on top of the list with 53 wickets, two ahead of Kapil on 51.

THE PLAYER: It is hard to go past the indomitable Bumrah. After helping save India from the follow-on with a valuable 10no in a crucial last wicket stand of 47 with Akash Deep, the 31-year-old returned to doing what he does best at the bowling crease. He now has 21 wickets for the series at an average of 10.9.

THE STAT: Australia opener Usman Khawaja now has just 161 runs at an average of 16.1 in his last 11 innings.
