An early morning shooting at Klocker’s Tavern killed one person and injured another on Monday.

Following the deadly shooting, the bar’s owner announced that it will close the bar permanently.

Jotham Simmons, 43, died from gunshot wounds at 3:12 a.m. on Monday, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard by email. The Myrtle Beach man was brought to the South Strand Emergency Department from Klocker’s.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to close Klockers permanently. This choice has been incredibly difficult, but in light of the recent shooting, continued violence, theft, and losses, it has become clear that closing is the only responsible way to ensure everyone’s safety,” the statement read.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m., according to a report from Horry County Police.

No one was arrested but everyone was “accounted for,” said Horry County spokesperson Thomas Bell in a text to The Sun News. Horry County Police are investigating.

When police arrived, they found a trail of blood leaving the front door and entering the parking lot. Inside the bar, an unconscious man was laying on the floor of the bar, according to the report. Patrons told police the man was not shot but instead was intoxicated and fell over.

While at the bar, police got a call saying someone with gunshot wounds arrived at a redacted location, the police report said.

Klocker’s and its former counterpart, Barfield’s Bar, have been involved in a number of shootings and other violence events over the past decade. The two bars shared a parking lot and patio space before Barfield’s closed last year.
