Rockingham bushfire: Port Kennedy residents told to evacuate as firefighters battle out-of-control bushfire

Residents in Port Kennedy have been told to evacuate as an out-of-control bushfire rages in Perth’s south.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued an emergency warning for residents bound by Warnbro Sound Avenue, Bakewell Drive, Ennis Avenue and Port Kennedy Drive in Port Kennedy in the City of Rockingham about 2.20pm on Tuesday.

“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive,” DFES said.

“There is a threat to lives and homes.

“Do not wait and see, leaving at the last minute could put your life in danger.”

The blaze — which was first reported at 1.38pm on Tuesday afternoon — is burning towards Ennis Avenue and Mandurah Road and is moving in a north easterly direction.

Firefighters are actively fighting the blaze.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully.

A bushfire advice warning is also in place for residents in parts of the City of Wanneroo.

DFES told residents in areas bounded by Tomar Road, Perry Road and Old Yanchep Road in parts of Pinjar, Nowergup, Yanchep and Carabooda in the City of Wanneroo to “stay alert” and monitor conditions.

“Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames,” DFES said.

“Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.”

The fire — which was first reported at 1.32pm on Tuesday — is moving slowly in an easterly direction and is contained but not controlled.

Water bombers and ground crew are actively working to fight the blaze.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
