Instead of Overwatch 3, Blizzard Should Partner With Marvel’s Rivals for a Next Gen 6v6 Hero Shooter

When NetEase Games initially revealed Marvel Rivals, the Overwatch 2 team called it a clone and something that it doesn’t have to worry about. However, now that the NetEase game has finally debuted, it’s making waves in the community and surpassing Overwatch in every aspect.

Many in the community believe that Blizzard might be scrambling and preparing itself to bring Overwatch 3 to fight against NetEase’s hero shooter. However, all the studio needs to do is partner up with Marvel’s biggest rival and deliver a game that will be the undisputed king of the hero-shooter genre.

It’s fair to say that the last couple of months haven’t been the best for Warner Bros.’ DC universe. Rocksteady Studio gave us a DC-based live-service slop that no one had asked for, and even that’s soon shutting down. It’s mind-boggling how the studio failed despite the potential of this franchise.

With Blizzard’s own failures right now, it might be the perfect opportunity to partner up with Warner Bros. and bring a 6v6 hero shooter that’s centered around DC characters. Even though Overwatch hasn’t been doing the best, the game proved that Blizzard is the pioneer of the hero shooter genre as it completely defined it in various ways.

The arrival of Marvel’s hero shooter has proved that there’s still a market for hero-shooter games. If Blizzard makes a DC 6v6 hero shooter, it will have a major edge over Marvel simply due to the fact that all the characters in this universe are quite versatile and come with variety. Unlike Marvel, DC’s heroes and villains aren’t similar and are unique in every aspect.

While developing a DC hero shooter, Blizzard can also learn from its mistakes with Overwatch 2, such as the live-service model and monetization tactics. It’s one of the reasons why the game is absolutely despised by hardcore fans of the franchise and something that should never be ever featured in the studio’s future projects.

With Blizzard’s mastery of hero shooters and the variety of DC’s universe, we could see a game that not only competes against Marvel Rivals but triumphs over it. It’s a collaboration that the top executives at Blizzard and Warner Bros. must consider.

Considering the reputation the Overwatch franchise has managed to establish since its release in 2016, it’s shocking how badly the franchise is performing against its biggest rival right now.

suggests that Marvel Rivals managed to achieve a concurrent player count of 444,286 on its very first day of release.. That’s not all; the game also has a “mostly positive rating” on Valve’s service, with more than 75,000 reviews. Even Blizzard’s own hero shooter couldn’t manage to achieve those numbers when it debuted on Steam.

NetEase is also partnering with a number of other titles and publishers to push the title to even greater heights. The game’s success is certainly a breath of fresh air for fans of the hero shooter genre. Earlier this year, Sony’s Concord was scrapped in less than two weeks.

It’s high time for Blizzard to get their act together, and instead of working on another Overwatch game, collaborate with Marvel’s biggest rival out there to achieve unheard levels of success. Otherwise, the company might suffer from a fate worse than Firewalk Studios.
