Dutch cops stop Frenchman with coffins full of ********

A French driver in a vehicle containing two coffins of ******** is in police custody after officers spotted him driving in a suspicious manner.

The man insisted he was carrying two bodies when police stopped his delivery vehicle south of Rotterdam late on Friday, the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper reported.

But he was unable to produce the necessary documentation.

The police had the coffins opened at an undertaker to find sports bags containing about 250 kilograms of ******** with a street value of some $US14 million ($A22 million).

According to a police spokesman, the man was driving from France to the Netherlands but did not himself know his ultimate destination.

He was to have received a message telling him where to go.

The driver is being held in custody, and the drugs have been destroyed.
