Is FromSoft Picking a Fight With Guerrilla AGAIN? Horizon and Elden Ring Nightreign Clash Happening Next Year Makes It Pretty Evident

From any angle, Guerrilla Games’ Horizon series has been a victim of unfortunate timing. Despite earning critical acclaim and developing a passionate fanbase, the franchise has earned a somewhat tragic reputation for releasing its titles in the shadow of *******, more widely anticipated games.

Whether it’s some cosmic curse or just bad luck, it seems the series has never quite managed to get the spotlight all to itself. Once again, with its impending release of a multiplayer spinoff in 2025, it has found itself in the same position, right up against a newly announced multiplayer title from FromSoft: Elden Ring Nightreign.

For those unfamiliar with this so-called curse, Guerrilla Games started the franchise with Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017. However, it was released just a week after The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, one of the most highly anticipated titles. The comparisons were inevitable, and while Zero Dawn was a great success, it was impossible for it to avoid being overshadowed.

The next installment, Horizon Forbidden West, was released in February 2022, only to once again face a generational behemoth: Elden Ring. Despite receiving great reviews, Forbidden West couldn’t keep up with Miyazaki’s masterpiece.

And then, to add more insult to injury, the Horizon Remaster was released in October 2023, only to be sandwiched between the beta for Monster Hunter Wilds and the hype surrounding Dragon Age: The Veilguard, two massive titles that captured and swallowed the spotlight.

For years, the gaming community has been noticing the pattern and the narrative was crystal clear: Horizon is cursed. It can’t catch a break. Whether due to poor timing or sheer bad luck, it seems like Guerrilla Games can never avoid running into a juggernaut.

Elden Ring multiplayer game coming out the same year as a Horizon multiplayer is so funny. From will not let that franchise have a moment of peace.

I was hoping that the next Horizon game would draw out the GTA 6 release date, but this will do.

And yes, it must feel personal to Guerilla at this point.

From the looks of it, it’s happening again. Horizon’s much-anticipated multiplayer spin-off is set to release alongside Elden Ring: Nightreign. While release dates for both titles have not yet been confirmed, given their history, it’s entirely possible they’ll launch just days or weeks apart. Fate has its ways.

Is FromSoftware setting up a collision course with Guerrilla?

For Guerrilla Games, the situation is becoming almost laughable. It might even be thinking that they are cursed, fated to live in the shadows of ******* games forever. However, it also showcases the brutal reality of an industry where timing is everything.

That said, we must give credit where credit is due: The Horizon series has continued to perform well despite its bad timing. With the upcoming release of its multiplayer spin-off, Guerrilla has the chance to prove it can clash with titans like Elden Ring: Nightreign (FromSoft testing multiplayer genre might backfire) and come out victorious on the other side.

However, with so many coincidences piling up, one has to wonder: Is this simply a matter of fate, or is something more intentional at play, especially considering FromSoftware’s knack for picking the perfect moment to drop their biggest releases?

In the end, one thing has become very clear: Guerrilla Games and FromSoftware seem to be on a collision course once again. Let the battle for 2025 begin.
