Margaret River product Jack Robinson named Surfing Australia’s male surfer of the year 2024

Margaret River born and bred surfer Jack Robinson has surprised no one by being named the *********** male surfer of the year.

Hot off the heels of securing WA’s top male surfer gong at the prestigious Surfing WA awards last month, Robinson was honoured as part of Surfing Australia’s annual awards at the weekend that also saw legendary surfer Layne Beachley given life membership.

Robinson’s win came after a successful Olympics campaign saw him take home silver at the competition held in Teahupo’o, French Polynesia.

Robinson overcame injury and the weight of a nation’s hopes to win silver for the country in the sport’s first entry at the Olympic level.

Although travel commitments and logistics meant the big wave surfer now lived on the Gold Coast, his surfing at the Olympics as well as his most recent win at the Margaret River Pro captivated and continued to buoy fans in the local community.

In receiving the fresh award last week, Robinson also acknowledged his roots in the region.

“It’s a big honour to receive the male surfer of the year award, especially to be recognised for my work and the dedication that we’ve put into this,” he told the Times.

“Also a huge thank you to my wife and family and (son) Zen and my team that’s on this journey with me.

“I couldn’t do it without them. I look forward to sharing many more moments like this in the future.”

Olympic teammate Molly Picklum won the female surfer award while storied surfer Luke Egan was inducted into the hall of fame by fellow legends Matt Hoy, Joel Parkinson, Mark Occhilupo and Mark Richards.
