Tax office moves to liquidate Ross Pelligra’s Perth Glory holding company as Anthony Radich eyes quick fix

New Perth Glory owner Ross Pelligra is facing a liquidation push less than 10 months after grabbing the battling soccer club from investment promoter Tony Sage.

*********** Taxation Office has asked the Federal Court to put liquidators into Mr Pelligra’s A-League holding company Perth Glory Football Pty Ltd as club officials say they’re surprised by the legal attack.

Glory chief executive Anthony Radich told The West *********** the club had not received any correspondence or notices from the ATO on the matter until Friday

Mr Radich said it was a matter for Mr Pelligra’s flagship company Pelligra Group to sort with the tax office and he expected it to be resolved shortly.

Glory’s Fremantle-based administration then released a statement saying it “suspected this issue may be related to the previous ownership”.

The club had not “received any formal notice from the *********** Taxation Office related to the matter”, according to the statement

The size and source of the alleged debt tax office debt underpinning the liquidation application against Perth Glory Football Pty Ltd is not known.

The company was set-up by Mr Pelligra in January as the construction mogul was finalising a successful bid to buy Perth Glory from receivers.

*********** Securities and Investments Commission records show Perth Glory Football Pty Ltd’s address as being Melbourne north-west headquarters of Mr Pelligra’s construction flagship Pelligra Group.

The besieged Glory company is owned by Mr Pelligra via another company Vos Pelligra Pty Ltd.

Mr Pelligra took control of Glory in February after a drawn-out sales process overseen by receivers appointed by A-League governing body *********** Professional Leagues in July last year.

Mr Sage and soccer officials had made a series of ****-for-**** claims ahead of *********** Professional Leagues forcing Mr Sage’s holding company Okewood Pty Ltd to hand back its national competition operating licence.

Mr Sage‘s finances had been squeezed as he faced Federal investigation into his business dealings and fought tax assessments dating back to before raids on his West Perth offices in late 2012.

Glory has battled on the field with crowd numbers under Mr Pelligra.

The Melbourne businessman enjoyed a first-up win as Glory chair against Brisbane Roar on February 17 as the men’s side headed towards a wooden spoon for the 2023-24 A-League season.

Glory men’s side is currently 17 games in a row without a win — just two games off the record for longest winless run in A-League history.

Federal Court records show the tax office lodged the liquidation application against Perth Glory Football Pty Ltd last Wednesday in Melbourne.

It is due for a first-up mention in front of a Federal Court registrar on February 5.
