PM pictured playing tennis in Perth at swanky beach side club as Jewish community reels from firebombing

Pictures have emerged of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese playing tennis in one of Perth’s ritziest suburbs, as Australia’s Jewish community was dealing with the fallout from the firebombing of a Melbourne synagogue the day before.

The *********** published the extraordinary images of Mr Albanese in tennis whites and shorts playing in the sun at Cottesloe Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon.

The Prime Minister’s game came despite the attack and commentary from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blaming Albanese Labor government for increased anti-Semitism in Australia.

Cottesloe Tennis Club president Rob Wilde told The *********** Mr Albanese arrived at 2.30pm on Saturday, and was at the venue for two hours.

“We had two sets of tennis and afternoon tea and (he was) very sociable. He had a pleasant time with some of our members,” Mr Wilde said.

“He had all his own equipment. He came all ready and dressed to go … I played against him twice.

In another photo posted to social media, club member Elizabeth Pell posed with the Prime Minister, saying: “Not someone you meet everyday!”

Mr Albanese — who was in Perth on the weekend for the opening of a train line — has been criticised for not travelling to Melbourne to tour the site of the firebombing as well as taking 48 hours to label it terrorism.

He also rejected calls from former Liberal MP Josh Frydenberg and other Jewish leaders to establish a law enforcement taskforce focused on tackling anti-Semitism.
