Mitch Marsh has been left to rue his West *********** sense of honesty, walking off as the umpire gave him out caught behind – with the replay showing he did not hit the ball.

Early in the evening session of the second day of the second Test between Australia and India, Marsh departed Adelaide Oval after seemingly nicking a clever delivery from spin ace Ravi Ashwin.

The umpire was not convinced but the burly all-rounder gave himself away as he began to walk from the wicket.

It forced the central umpire to raise the finger, a move that even confused Ashwin who appeared to still turn to skipper Rohit Sharma to discuss the value of a review.

However, it was Marsh who should have challenged the decision.

Replays showed the ball missing his outside edge with clear daylight, Snicko technology revealing a flat line.

Marsh did hit his front pad with the inside edge of his bat at the same time the ball passed his outside edge, perhaps tricking the experienced cricketer.

It came at an unfortunate moment for the home side who finally have their first lead of the series, 34 runs ahead of India who thrashed Australia in the first Test in Perth.

The crowd’s disappointment was short lived as they realised two South Australians in Alex Carey and Travis Head would combine at the crease.

And the arrival of his state keeper came at the perfect time for Head as he ratcheted up the pressure on India.
