Why do I need to input my date of birth in Destiny 2?

Players have been asked to provide their date of birth in Destiny 2 before, but starting on March 12, 2024, every Destiny 2 player will need to enter their date of birth. Here’s why.

The full quote from Bungie Help reads, “In our ongoing efforts to promote player privacy and safety, Destiny 2 will require players to input a date of birth starting on March 12 if they haven’t done so previously on Bungie.net. This is a one-time account ask.”

If you have logged your date of birth with your Bungie account online, then you won’t be asked to share your birthday in Destiny 2. Also, after inputting your date of birth once, you’ll never be asked again.

The Bungie Help website says that they are doing this “due to privacy laws requiring these permissions for a child to access certain online games or services.” It’s unclear whether anything within Destiny 2 will change depending on what date of birth you enter. It’s likely that chat and social setting may be changed if you’re under 13.

But that’s what the birthday is all about in Destiny 2. Sadly, they aren’t asking you for your date of birth to reward you with Silver on your birthday. That would be awesome, but it’s Bungie. They’re looking out for the player’s safety, not the player’s wallet. The best thing to do is to answer it honestly so that you can get back to building the best builds to win Supremacy.
