Diablo 4 Dark Citadel’s Key Problem Is Forced Multiplayer but Game Director Is Content With How It Is

Brent Gibson, the game director for Vessel of Hatred, gives tips for solo players and is still dedicated to the idea of adding more group-only content to Diablo 4. Every season since its launch more than a year ago has seen Diablo 4 gain traction, which culminated in the favorable reception of its first expansion, Vessel of Hatred.

Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred included the Dark Citadel as an endgame activity in addition to a new campaign and other content. The Dark Citadel is, however, a PvE co-op-only experience, which is a first for the franchise. This effectively excludes solo players from the game and leaves many disappointed that they are unable to enjoy a crucial component of the expansion.

Brent Gibson, the game director for Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, recently acknowledged in an interview with

that he is pleased with the way players have reacted to the Dark Citadel in Diablo 4.

Players who have experienced it have reportedly given it positive reviews, despite the fact that it isn’t for everyone. Furthermore, Gibson demonstrated that he was “sticking to his guns” by effectively doubling down on the notion of group-only content. He continued:

We’ve designed it in a way where, to be the most efficient in the game, it’s not required to have to go through that multiplayer content. I love the fact that we have this huge, rich game that has a bunch of different activities that give you alternate paths in the same loop.

For players who prefer playing alone, Blizzard doesn’t seem to be giving up on group-only activities. Indeed, both Gibson and Rod Fergusson, general manager of Diablo, concur that they are pleased with the amount of content available to players in the Diablo 4 endgame, which is constantly changing to accommodate a variety of experiences.

In essence, Diablo 4 players now have a wide variety of options for alternate routes within the same endgame loop, such as Dark Citadel, the Pit, Kurast Undercity, and the Infernal Horde, to mention a few. However, this new expansion has brought a new feature that fans will surely like.

Diablo 4‘s Season 7 PTR is Full of Bugs

Season 7 of Diablo 4 will shake things up once more with a ton of new content, even though Season 6 brought some well-liked additions. It is anticipated that the new season will debut in January 2025. However, how will fans respond to the impending updates if the PTR itself is plagued by bugs?

Although PTR is only available for a short time, it gives players an idea of what to expect in the forthcoming season. Players may lose interest if there are bugs that cause the PTR to shut down for 24 hours because there are so many highly anticipated games coming up.

Despite being officially launched, Diablo 4‘s Season 7 PTR is starting slowly due to a significant bug. Blizzard has been forced to disable the feature because of issues with Mrak, the NPC that raises PTR characters to their maximum level.

Season 7 PTR is live but we will be disabling our boost NPC (Mrak) for the next 24 hrs. We discovered an issue where multiple players interacting w/ Mrak can lead to some behind the scenes issues. We will fix it up and have Mrak re-enabled tomorrow AM.

Due to their inability to quickly reach max level, players are unable to thoroughly test the balance of the updated Skills and Aspects in Diablo 4 Season 7’s endgame. For many, this defeats the purpose of the PTR. This frustration regarding the PTR might steer fans to a different ARPG camp.

Right now, everyone’s attention is focused on the upcoming Season 7, which is presently undergoing testing on the PTR server prior to its premiere. Blizzard hasn’t been afraid to reveal new content, even confirming a few upcoming features in recent Campfire Chats, even though a definitive release date isn’t yet set in stone.
