Starc trapped Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal leg before wicket with the opening delivery of the second Test at Adelaide Oval on Friday. The left-armer has now claimed a wicket with the first ball of a Test three times, equalling the landmark of West Indian Pedro Collins. Remarkably, Collins dismissed Bangladesh batsman Hannan Sarkar on each occasion, in a 2002 Test and twice in 2004. On Friday, Starc produced a full swinging delivery with the pink ball that struck Jaiswal in front. The Indian opener considered referring umpire Richard Kettleborough’s instant decision of out. But after a brief mid-pitch discussion with his partner KL Rahul, Jaiswal trudged from Adelaide Oval. Starc’s wicket was similar to the last time he claimed a victim with the first ball of Test, when he bowled England’s Rory Burns at the Gabba in December, 2021. “That’s exactly what Mitchell Starc did to Burns up at the Gabba, time and time again he allows that ball to swing,” retired *********** batter David Warner said in commentary for Fox Sports. Starc also achieved the feat in August 2016 against Sri Lanka in Galle when he dismissed Dimuth Karunaratne for a golden duck. On that occasion, Starc again bowled a fullish swinging ball that the Sri Lankan clipped to Joe Burns at square leg who completed the catch.
