The MCU Villain That Nearly Beat the Avengers Is a Close Combat God Marvel Rivals Needs Next Seasontitle

Marvel Rivals is finally getting its full launch on December 6, 2024. Despite a strong lineup of 33 playable characters, the roster is lacking in the villain department. His commanding presence, rich backstory, and potential for unique gameplay mechanics make him a perfect fit for the game.

One particular way NetEase Games could add him into the game would be to make him a melee brawler-type character. We already saw in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame that he is a formidable fighter even without the Infinity Gauntlet. He would be a perfect fit for the game’s existing characters.

Currently, Marvel Rivals struggles with an imbalance between heroes and villains. Of the 33 launch characters, only a handful are villains, such as Loki, Hela, and Magneto. Leaks suggest that Ultron may join post-launch, but this addition barely scratches the surface of Marvel’s extensive villain lineup.

While anti-heroes like Venom and Namor add complexity to the roster, they don’t fulfill the need for iconic, outright villains. Fans have voiced their desire for major antagonists like Thanos, Green Goblin, or any others to provide the roster with the variety it desperately needs.

Designing Thanos as a melee-centric character would align with the game’s existing strengths while addressing its challenges. Developers at NetEase have admitted the difficulty of balancing melee heroes without making gameplay chaotic.

There is a chance that his addition could focus too heavily on his Infinity Gauntlet and make him overpowered. To address this, his kit could balance his gauntlet-based powers with his raw physicality. Even without the gauntlet, Thanos is a strong character who can still put up a fight with sheer strength alone.

On the other hand, the Infinity Gauntlet could also add an interesting touch. For instance, his abilities could include a resource management system where players collect Infinity Stones throughout a match and unlock progressively stronger abilities. Either way, balance is key.

My most wanted marvel rivals characters

There’s 1 issue, thanos and dr doom are too op so if they add them they would have to balance them with the rest which could mean that they won’t feel like themselves, does that make sense? It could also be an issue with Kang

Beyond gameplay, adding Thanos to Marvel Rivals would strengthen its appeal. His presence could introduce thematic events or tie-ins, such as Infinity Saga-inspired missions or PvE campaigns that add to the game’s scope beyond PvP.

He represents everything a great addition to Marvel Rivals should be: iconic, versatile, and capable of bringing something new to the gameplay. With the game set to expand its roster post-launch, adding Thanos would address its lack of villains while introducing a character that rewards strategic, close-combat play.

There is currently a poll in the official Discord server for Marvel Rivals and while he isn’t leading the votes, Thanos is one of the more voted options. He is one of the most iconic villains in Marvel and one that fans of the MCU are similar to. The value of adding him can’t be denied.
