Never Suggested Cutting Secret Level’s Concord Episode

Sony’s ill-fated multiplayer shooter Concord is the focus of an episode of Prime Video’s video game anthology series Secret Level, and, because the game itself has been shuttered, it could be one of the last times fans see anything about Concord. But Secret Level showrunner Tim Miller never considered removing the episode in the wake of the game’s cancellation, and

never asked for that.

“It never came up with us, I mean,

never suggested it, and we didn’t either because why? I mean, we have games in the mix that are no longer like Unreal Tournament,” Miller told

. “This one the course to not being out there was different, of course, but the end result is we have an interesting story with a beautiful piece of animation that people worked very hard to produce.”

Miller went on to say he and team are proud of the episode and are eager for fans to see it. “The fact that the game is no longer around is unfortunate because we liked the developers, they were nice people, and they were trying to do the best they could,” he said. “But it doesn’t affect our desire to put this thing out in the world that we worked very hard on and so did they, and a lot of artists.”

Executive producer Dave Wilson said putting Concord in the show in the first place was a decision that was made years ago. Like Miller, Wilson said he’s very proud of the Concord episode, and teased that the episode itself is themed around joy.

“If there was an episode that was filled with joy, that one was great and it’s oddly sad on the other side of it,” Wilson said.

Before this, Miller talked about how the Concord episode of Secret Level shows “the potential of this world and the characters.”

“If it’s the remaining vestige of that product, I hope the developers feel that it’s in some way worthy, just a little bit, of the blood, sweat, and tears they put into it,” he said.

Secret Level is an anthology series similar to Miller’s previous show, Love, Death & Robots. There are 15 episodes in all, including installments based on franchises like Mega Man, Pac-Man, The Outer Worlds, and PlayStation in general. The series premieres December 10 on Prime Video. The episodes feature the voices of Keanu Reeves, Arnold and Patrick Schwarzenegger, Gabriel Luna, Claudia Doumit, and Merle Dandridge, among others.

Concord launched in August for PlayStation and PC, but it failed to find an audience and Sony made the dramatic decision to shut the game down and offer refunds. Its developer, Firewalk, has since closed. Going forward, Sony’s management has said it has implemented new procedures to help ensure something like this doesn’t happen again.
