Indiana Jones is returning back into the spotlight, this time with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which is a game and not a movie. The game is being developed by MachineGames, known for the Wolfenstein series, and published by Bethesda. When Bethesda’s Todd Howard approached MachineGames to take on the project, the game’s executive producer says it was very unexpected.

The game isn’t just another pitch though, it’s been a long time coming. The game is a passion project for Bethesda’s Todd Howard and has been years in the making. Indiana Jones and The Great Circle launches on December 9, 2024.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Is An Honor For Both Todd Howard and MachineGames

Todd Howard, the creative mind behind Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, first pitched an Indiana Jones game in 2009, but the project never found the right timing. Fast forward 15 years, and his vision has finally come to life. Collaborating with Lucasfilm Games and MachineGames the foundation has been ***** for an Indiana Jones story full of puzzles, exploration, and high-stakes adventure.

I still must admit though, that I was quite surprised when Todd asked me if we would be interested in developing a new Indiana Jones game. Surprised, but also deeply honored. 

For many of the developers, Indiana Jones was a childhood icon, making this project a dream come true. Known for ********* and gruesome action games like Wolfenstein, this new project would require a new approach for the devs. They wanted to do this big opportunity justice.

Creative director Axel Torvenius shared that the team leaned heavily on research and design to make a game that feels authentic to the Indiana Jones universe. The story is set between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, offering fans a chance to explore a previously untapped ******* in Indy’s life.

Known for roles in The Last of Us and ****** Stranding, Troy Baker is an industry veteran who brings a metric ton of experience to the role. Interestingly though, he wasn’t Todd Howard’s first choice. Despite initially not wanting him, Baker eventually won Howard over when he was repeatedly picked in ****** tests with multiple actors.

Troy Baker is completely committed to his performance as Indy and eagerly took up the challenge. He even trained with a real whip to perfect Indy’s iconic moves during motion capture sessions.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is more than just a video game; it’s a love letter to a character who has inspired generations. From Todd Howard’s decade-long dream to every single detail and feature that MachineGames has poured into its development.
