Diamond Member Pelican Press 0 Posted March 12 Diamond Member Share Posted March 12 AFL injury news: Essendon star Darcy Parish could miss two weeks Essendon has ruled star midfielder Darcy Parish out of Saturday’s blockbuster season opener against Hawthorn after a hamstring injury suffered at training last week. Parish is also in doubt for the round 2 clash against Sydney at the SCG, but the ******** will be able to replace the All-*********** midfielder with Ben Hobbs after declaring the third-year on-baller fit to play. “(Parish) tweaked his hamstring during training last week and despite initial hopes that he would be right to play against the Hawks this Saturday, further medical consultation (on Tuesday) confirmed that he won’t get up for the round one fixture,” a ******** spokesperson said. Dylan Shiel has been listed as a “test” as he recovers from a persistent foot injury, but the 31-year-old is unlikely to return via the senior level after he didn’t play either of the ********’ pre-season games. Versatile defender Jake Kelly is available to face the Hawks after recovering from a hamstring strain and could bolster a back six missing Jordan Ridley, who Essendon expects to be pushing for selection by round 4. Star trio bolsters Tigers Richmond will make at least four changes to the side that suffered a humbling opening round defeat against Gold Coast with star forward Tom ****** cleared to return after 11 months on the sidelines. ****** will play his first game since he was struck down by a serious foot injury in round 4 last season, as Dustin Martin, captain Toby Nankervis and small forward Rhyan Mansell were all cleared to return alongside him against Carlton on Thursday night. Nankervis (foot) has been given the nod after missing the Tigers’ pre-season matches, with coach Adem Yze saying last week it was not worth risking his stars in both of their first two matches with only a five-day break in between. Vice-captain Jayden Short said it would be “awesome” to have ****** back in the side after the forward made it through training unscathed at Punt Road on Tuesday in a final test of his fitness. Michael Klein Credit: News Corp Australia “It’s been a long time out of the game (for ******) … It’s almost been 12 months with a foot injury,” Short said. “To see the way he’s showed up at the club every single day in rehab has been amazing. His attitude towards his rehab has been sensational. What he’s done for the group, just his positivity around the club, is amazing. ‘We had (those) boys train (Tuesday) … they look pretty good … Rhyan Mansell, he had an awesome pre-season. I’m always pumped when you get blokes back from rehab.” It comes as Sydney gave an update on Taylor Adams’ recovery timeline from lateral ligament sprain he suffered in the pre-season match against Brisbane. The Swans said Adams was “moving well” and no longer needed a leg brace, with his return expected in two to three weeks. Sydney’s midfield depth has taken a further dent though, with Angus Sheldrick sidelined for a month after fracturing his little finger in a VFL practice match last weekend. Sheldrick was surplus to requirements in the season opener against Melbourne but looked set for an eventual midfield opportunity off the back of strong pre-season form and the injuries to Adams, Callum Mills and Luke Parker.
