Programme and structure of the hearings

Each of the six candidates (list below), will have approximately a one-hour hearing.

08:35 – 09:50 Ms Teresa ANJINHO
09:55 – 11:10 Mr Emilio DE CAPITANI
11:15 – 12:30 Mr Marino FARDELLI
14:30 – 15:45 Ms Julia LAFFRANQUE
15:50 – 17:05 Ms Claudia MAHLER
17:10 – 18:25 Mr Reinier VAN ZUTPHEN

Political group coordinators will ask a first round of questions (one minute per question, three minutes for answers). Subsequent questions will be posed by other MEPs. Each discussion will conclude with a short statement by the candidate.

Next steps

Parliament is expected to elect the new ********* Ombudsman by secret ballot during the December plenary session in Strasbourg.

Background

The Ombudsman is elected by the Parliament at the start of each parliamentary term. The outgoing ********* Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly, was re-elected for a second term in December 2019.
