Armed robbers steal keys to every apartment mailbox in Augusta, USPS offers $150,000 reward

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information about two suspects who allegedly robbed a 24-year-old ******* States Postal Service (USPS) letter carrier at gunpoint and stole the keys to every apartment complex mailbox in the Augusta area.

The robbery happened on Nov. 13 just before 5 p.m. at 3461 Jonathan Circle in Augusta, according to authorities.

Two male suspects allegedly stopped the post office worker while he was passing out mail, holding a ******* to his chest, according to an incident report from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

The two men demanded the keys to his post office vehicle and his “area keys,” which open mailboxes to “every apartment complex in the area,” according to the report. The post office worker told deputies he did not know the value of the keys, but said they are “very expensive.”

The suspects ran off toward Marvin Griffin Road, according to authorities. Two vehicles were later recovered by the sheriff’s office. The inspection service noted those with information should not take action to apprehend the suspects themselves.

USPS did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.
