Heroes *******: ****** x3 is a lawsuit just waiting to happen, so let’s talk about it

  • Heroes *******: ****** x3 is a simple 2D, hero-collecting RPG
  • But a glance at its socials reveal a few notable inclusions of er, familiar faces
  • It’s been a while since we had a good bit of shovelware to discuss

As we get into the depths of winter it seems as if it’s rarer and rarer to see new launches. After all, as we get closer to Christmas people are more likely (hopefully) to spend money on gifts than while away on mobile gaming, but there’s occasionally one that pops up. Sometimes these are good, like Mask Around, and sometimes they’re Heroes *******: ****** x3.

Now, at a glance, this is a relatively inoffensive if not particularly notable release. A 2D hero-collecting RPG where you pit your roster of various diverse characters against hordes of enemies and bosses. We’ve seen it done a dozen times, but that’s not to say anything bad about Heroes *******.

However, it’s when we get a glance

that we begin to peel back the layers a bit. And see some particularly familiar-looking faces popping up; some of which I’m almost 99.9% sure aren’t meant to be there.

I’ve seen that face before (like the Grace Jones song)

Yes, faces like Goku, Doraemon and Tanjiro all make conspicuous appearances in the marketing for Heroes *******. Now, I don’t want to be a cynic but I’d say those probably aren’t licenced. It’s quite exciting actually, seeing some real shameless rip-offs like this make major headway, a bit like watching a fish take its first steps onto land.

But in all seriousness, it’s hard to give a detached view without stifling a laugh at ****** x3. It’s a bit brazen to act like these famous faces, who’re newsworthy for appearing even in other games, would all be making an appearance. But at the same time, I find it to be rather comforting that this is the first real rip-off title I’ve seen in years.

It’s especially galling when you consider all the actually fantastic releases that are out there. So let’s take a moment to discuss them, shall we? Why not dig into our latest list of the top five new mobile games to try this week?

Or better yet, take a look at some of our reviews. This week Stephen has been digging into Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago, which not only has better gameplay, but a snappier name than today’s subject.
