Bugs Plaguing the Current Destiny 2 Season Has Players Cursing Devs For Letting Go of Employees

The latest season of Destiny 2 has been full of bugs, some of which are game-breaking. After the release of Episode Revenant Act 2 on November 19, many feel the game is at its most unstable. Even outside of bugs, players have also been criticizing the story. The situation is grim.

Bungie, the developer behind the popular MMO, is under scrutiny following recent layoffs. Over time, players have blamed the game’s decline in quality on the loss of key staff, particularly from the quality assurance (QA) team. In October of 2023, the studio ***** off roughly 100 employees and a lot of them worked on Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 Has Been On a Very Downhill Road

The new Destiny 2 season has been full of bugs affecting nearly every aspect of gameplay. From raids that fail to progress to other game modes rendered unplayable by invincible enemies, the game’s technical performance has reached an all-time low.

Despite a generally positive reception to some aspects of the story, such as the end-of-act cinematic, the bugs have easily broken the experience for many fans as they dub it “the buggiest the game has ever been.”

One infamous example of recent chaos is the Weightgate perk incident. None of these things should be an issue in a AAA game the size of Destiny 2. Especially one that’s been out as long as it has been. The studio’s attempts to patch these issues often appear to introduce new problems.

Players are linking these technical problems to the studio’s controversial layoffs, which reportedly impacted around 100 employees, including a noticeable portion of the QA team. The cuts came as part of broader cost-saving measures, attributed to Destiny 2 underperforming.

Today is a sad day at Bungie as we say goodbye to colleagues who have all made a significant impact on our studio. What these exceptional individuals have contributed to our games and Bungie culture has been enormous and will continue to be a part of Bungie long into the future.

The story of Episode Revenant Act 2, has not fared much better. Fans have called out the storyline’s “forced” plot points, particularly the controversial decision by Eido, a key character, to release a known antagonist, Eramis. Many feel that it forces players to follow an illogical course of action.

At the time of the announcement, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons has faced intense criticism for how the layoffs were handled. Employees and players called out his description of the day as “sad” while justifying the cuts as necessary for the company’s future.

Your senior social lead probably would have recommended against this post, which you would have known had you not let them go. Pity

The repeated bugs and unfulfilled promises have fostered a sense of distrust among players. Many now question whether their weapons, builds, or strategies are even working as intended. Players now approach new content with skepticism and expect game-breaking bugs or poorly implemented features.

This uncertainty extends to weapons and gear, where “fixes” have sometimes rendered popular items unusable. Players feel Bungie’s patch notes now come with a hidden caveat: each update could bring as many problems as it solves.

All this has obviously undermined the game, with some players hesitant to invest time into activities that may not work as intended. Fans worry that the game’s decline could worsen with each new update, as the pace of fixes fails to keep up with the introduction of new problems.
