The odd thing is that the loan was approved after a $1 million tax lien was placed on the home. Most likely, there was a stipulation that the tax lien would be paid from the proceeds of the second mortgage, clearing the bank’s title. The couple are now in the process of a divorce and living separately. Brittany and their son Cruz live in the home, while Jax has a small apartment nearby. The loan had a maturity date of June 1, 2049. In July 2022, a Notice of Federal Tax Lien was filed for the $1,058,345.58 owed in taxes going back eight years. Apparently, Jax hadn’t been paying his income tax for a while. The bill included $23,008.45 for 2014, $118,169.57 for 2016, $72,110.16 for 2017, $198,190.36 for 2018 and $646,867.04 for 2019. Likely to pay the back taxes, the couple secured a second mortgage for $2,240,000 in 2022, with a maturity date of 2062. The U.S. Sun uncovered information that Brittany has been paying the mortgage on her own in recent months. A rep for the couple declined to comment. An anonymous expert source estimated: “The mortgage would be about $6,500 a month … not including interest and assuming it’s a traditional 30-year term. It would more likely be about $10,000 a month with fees and interest, and then taxes.” Brittany Cartwright the breadwinner has it covered Photo Credit: Casey Durkin/Bravo Though Jax and Brittany always said they didn’t “believe in divorce,” things got to the point where she had to leave for her own well-being. She and Cruz moved out in February 2024. When Jax went to a mental health facility over the summer, Britt and Cruz moved back home. “Everyone’s like, ‘Well, how come you didn’t leave?’” Jax said at the time. “I’m like, well, yeah, I pay the mortgage on my home now. I couldn’t pay the mortgage … [for] two places … I can’t afford a mortgage and an apartment.” Brittany filed for divorce in August 2024. Jax has since admitted that Brittany earns more money than him. Apparently, she is covering the mortgage on their home, while Jax pays the rent on his small apartment.
