For three seasons, every gamer’s hero, Henry Cavill, who himself is a fan of The Witcher, led the series as Geralt, but in 2022, it was revealed that the actor would be departing the series due to disagreements over the direction of the show. While these fans acknowledge Cavill’s talent in portraying Geralt, they believe that he isn’t the greatest defender of the source material, and he didn’t leave the show because he couldn’t see the injustice being done to the books.

Downplaying Triss’ romantic arc was crucial to maintaining the source material’s devotion to Yennefer. Removing Yennefer and Geralt’s intimate scenes helped them foster an emotional connection over a physical bond, which was crucial to the characters.

Currently, Project Polaris is being dubbed The Witcher 4. Developer CD Projekt Red hasn’t confirmed if the brand-new trilogy will continue the adventures of Geralt of Rivia or let some new protagonist take the spotlight. However, it’s often been stated that the monster hunter might still appear in some way even if the player isn’t controlling him.

According to this placeholder, the release date of the game looks to be December 31st, 2025. While this doesn’t translate to the game releasing in 2025, it’s not uncommon for upcoming titles that don’t have a release date to put the last date of the year as their expected launch frame.

There’s a high chance that the game might launch sometime in 2026 or 2027. Before that, we’ll need a trailer. The developer hasn’t said much about the project since its announcement in 2022 but could see a trailer at the upcoming Games Awards 2024 event.
