*********** Test wicketkeeper Alex Carey would welcome playing with Josh Inglis in Test team

*********** Test wicketkeeper Alex Carey says he would welcome playing alongside fellow keeper Josh Inglis against India should the West Aussie be called in.

Inglis was picked in the squad as a reserve batter after back-to-back Sheffield Shield hundreds that steered Western Australia to victory on top of incredible international white-ball form.

Carey and Inglis have been in a dogfight for the national keeping role across the last three seasons, with the South *********** losing his place in the ODI line-up during last year’s triumphant World Cup.

However, the pair are friends and have played plenty of cricket together with Carey believing it could happen again under the Baggy Green.

“We’ve been in lots of squads together now,” he said at the West Test launch on Monday.

“So it will be great to work alongside Josh; the keepers club’s normally pretty small, so to have one more in there is great and he’s going well, and he’s a mate, which is always a good thing.

“He’s come in in great form as well, so if his opportunity does come with the bat, he’ll definitely be ready to go. We’ve played lots of white-ball cricket together, so can definitely happen (here).”

Carey himself has been in outstanding form for his state.

He leads all-comers in Shield cricket for runs with 452 at a ridiculous average of 90.40 while also averaging nearly 40 in the one-day cup.

The left-hander revealed that, alongside rest, a few minor technical adjustments had him feeling as good as ever at the crease.

“I was able to have a pre-season; it’s always nice to hit more ******,” Carey said when asked about the key to his form.

“I worked on the game and tinkered that a little bit and then just tried to keep a really solid process going into every game. Hopefully, it continues on Friday, but a few slight technical shifts over the last six months I’ve brought in.

“Not having games coming up for a while, I just mucked around with my hands and found something that felt good. It’s only slight, but at the moment, it feels like I’m in a good position, reacting pretty well to the ball.

“Yeah, it did (feel like a eureka moment). I just got my hands up a little bit higher and the bat up to the sky, and from there, just try to react; it did feel good pretty much straight away.”
