Valve announced the Steam Deck OLED roughly a year ago, on November 9, 2023. The updated model replaced the launch version’s 7″ LCD screen with a new 7.4″ OLED one, delivering brighter colours and darker ******* while also supporting HDR.

It also improved other components, including a longer battery life, an upgrade from Wi-Fi 5 to Wi-Fi 6E, improved thermals and a larger fan, and weighs 30g less than the standard Steam Deck.

However, at the time of its announcement Steam Deck product designer Lawrence Yang said the OLED is merely an upgraded version of the initial model, and that the team was still working on a ‘Steam Deck 2’, which will feature a “next-generation” upgrade in power, but still wouldn’t be available for “at least two or three years”.
