Tasmania JackJumpers stun NBL’s high-flying Breakers

Reigning NBL champions Tasmania have breathed some life into their season, knocking off table-topping New Zealand by 19 points and snapping a three-game losing streak.

JackJumpers’ ********* import Jordon Crawford top-scored for the game with 19 points as his side leapt off the bottom of the ladder with a 83-64 win on Saturday night.

In a horror third quarter at Hobart’s MyState Bank Arena, the Breakers scored just three points – the worst quarter by any team this season.

New Zealand, on top of the table heading into the game, lost Jonah Bolden early in the first quarter when the power forward limped off with a left calf problem.

The win takes Tasmania to four wins and eight losses, while the Breakers sit at 6-3 with the halfway mark of the season approaching.

Tasmania trailed by 10 points in the opening quarter before launching a stunning turnaround, outscoring the Breakers 44-17 in the second and third quarters.

Import Craig Sword had his best game of the season for Tasmania with 18 points, while fellow bench player Majok Deng also picked up 18 as well as six rebounds.

The JackJumpers got the victory despite an underwhelming showing from Milton Doyle, who scored just three points after hitting 30 in their last-start loss to Perth.

The Breakers turned over the ball 19 times compared with Tasmania’s 13.

New Zealand, coming off a three-game winning run, nailed their first four three-point shots of the match and had the early running for a 27-20 quarter-time lead.

But Tasmania tightened the screws in defence and were more precise in *******, winning the second quarter 25-14 for a four-point half-time advantage.

New Zealand guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright scored 15 points and had a game-high nine assists, while Sam Mennenga was solid in a losing side with 13 points and seven rebounds.
