MGM Studios is finally going ahead with the project.

The show is going to be written and executive produced by Daniel Casey (who wrote the ninth Fast & Furious movie), and will also be executive produced by Karim Zreik (Jessica Jones) and Ari Arad (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).

BioWare‘s Michael Gamble, the project director on the next Mass Effect game, will also executive produce the series.

was “nearing a deal” to make a Mass Effect TV series.

At the time, former BioWare lead writer David Gaider – who was the lead writer on all three Dragon Age games – said the idea of a Mass Effect TV series (or a Dragon Age one) made him “cringe just a little”.

“For starters, Mass Effect and Dragon Age have a custom protagonist, meaning said TV show will need to pick whether said protagonist will be male or female,” he explained at the time. “*****, right off the bat you’ve just alienated a whole bunch of the built-in fan base who had their hopes up.”

This isn’t the first time Mass Effect has been linked to screen adaptations. Back in 2010, Legendary Pictures announced that it had acquired the rights to produce a Mass Effect movie in a co-production deal with Warner Bros.

Ultimately, however, the movie never materialised, with its screenwriter leaving the project in 2012.
