After 20 years, Metal Gear Solid 3’s Eva actor reveals her identity

20 years after its original release, Konami has confirmed that the character Eva in Metal Gear Solid 3 was voiced by The Little Mermaid actor Jodi Benson.

In a newly released episode of Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Legacy Series, the publisher finally put two decades of internet speculation to rest by confirming that Benson voiced the character in the original game and that she’ll return for the forthcoming remake.

Benson is best known for lending her voice to Ariel, the protagonist of the Disney film, The Little Mermaid. In the original game, Eva’s voice actor is listed as Suzetta Minet, which Benson now says was a pseudonym based on her dog at the time.

In the video, Benson claims that due to other projects she was involved in at the time, which were aimed at a family audience, it was suggested to her that she may not have wanted her real name attached to the game due to the ****** themes it deals with.

“The various projects I am associated with in my career, they’re sort of family-based, children-based, things like that, so it was actually Kris Zimmerman Salter that sat me down and said ‘Maybe we have to change your name’,” she explained.

Kris Zimmerman Salter served as the English voice director on several Metal Gear Solid games.

The remake of the game will largely use the game’s original audio recordings, but in the video, Benson, alongside Snake voice actor David Hayter, made reference to recording some additional dialogue. How that will manifest in the game is unknown.

VGC recently got the chance to play Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami’s remake of the third game. 

In our preview, we wrote: “If Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a temperature check for the return of the franchise, then so far it’s doing an incredible job. It feels incredible to play, it looks excellent, and it retains all the campy nonsense that makes Metal Gear so beloved.

“It’s like Konami sat down and said “What doesn’t hold up about MGS 3,” and laser-targeted those things while leaving the things that made it so unique alone. We couldn’t be more confident about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater as a package, and we’re desperate to play more.”
