That means Nintendo aims for The Legend of Zelda movie to hit theaters before 2030–further reinforced since 20XX is utilized elsewhere in the briefing regarding future hardware and software. Before then, “a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros.” will premiere April 3, 2026.

Nintendo shared this visual as part of the company’s second-quarter financial results for fiscal 2025. The image shows that The Legend of Zelda movie is planned to arrive before 2030.

The Legend of Zelda movie was announced almost exactly a year ago, and Nintendo is teaming up with Sony Pictures Entertainment on the live-action film. Kingdom for the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball is helming the project. The filmmaker wants to swing for live-action Hayao Miyazaki aesthetics with The Legend of Zelda movie, as well as for it to “feel like something real.”

Haley Joel Osment has expressed his ******* to play Link–a bit jokingly, to be clear–while Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer thinks it “would be so cool” to portray Zelda in the film. Meanwhile, Tingle creator Takaya Imamura wants Heroes actor Masi Oka to portray the spandex-wearing character if he appears in the movie.
