Dragon Age: The Veilguard – BioWare is Ditching Todd Howard’s Infamous DLC Strategy for Bethesda Games

Dragon Age: The Veilguard debuted on October 31st after almost a decade of development. Many doubted BioWare’s ability to bring another worthy entry into the franchise since the studio’s last couple of projects have been a massive disaster.

However, upon its release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard absolutely smashed it! The game has earned mostly positive reviews from critics and fans alike, proving that BioWare is back to its form! Despite the game’s success, the company has committed itself to not following Bethesda’s strategy when it comes to releasing DLCs.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Won’t Follow Bethesda’s Path to ********

As much as we gamers detest downloadable content for making us spend more money,

, providing great value. Sometimes, the DLC is the best part of their games, offering additional content for games such as Skyrim and Fallout, which players already love.

However, in the last couple of years, Bethesda has come under ***** by the community for relentlessly pushing poor-quality DLCs that ******* to hit the mark. The best example is Starfield‘s Shattered Space DLC, which might be Todd Howard and his team’s worst creation. Fortunately, BioWare wouldn’t take that risk with Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

While chatting with

, BioWare’s creative director, John Epler, stated that the studio has no plans to bring any kind of DLC for The Veilguard. As soon as the team is done patching the game, it will shift its focus to the development of the upcoming Mass Effect 5.

While this might be disappointing for gamers, who were hyped to see more of the Dragon Age universe, at least it means that The Veilguard won’t suffer from the same fate as Bethesda’s recent expansions. Let’s hope with this success, BioWare plans out more entries for the Dragon Age series.

Dragon Age Collection Might Not Never Happen

Even though The Veilguard has been an enormous success, the first three Dragon Age games hold a special place in the hearts of many. Gamers have begged BioWare to remaster these titles or even remake them on the Frostbite Engine.

In the same interview, Epler also touched upon this topic and clarified some challenges that the company would run into if it attempted to give the Dragon Age series the Legendary Edition treatment.

While the Mass Effect trilogy was crafted on Unreal Engine, Dragon Age shifted its base from Eclipse to Frostbite engine after the debut of the second game. This is a massive development challenge for BioWare if it attempts to remake a collection, considering it already has a lot on the table to work with.

That’s not all; the Dragon Age series hasn’t been confident in its identity. Every entry in the franchise has been a departure from its predecessor, and sure, it might’ve worked out with an established format, but it makes the idea of a remastered collection more complicated.

With that said, do you think BioWare has made a massive mistake by not giving us DLCs for Dragon Age: The Veilguard? Let us know in the comments below.
