I’ve always thought souls games are the closest we’ll get to it but they don’t have the integrated traversal with things like relics ( Double/long jumps, Transformations, Holy Symbol… ect ) that I really wanna see . Basically souls you’d just just find a switch, key, ladder or drop to a lower platform for 90% of the exploration but it’s nothing like metroidvanias where you get to see your character progress as the tool to open the game further. I’m still hoping though … even after 25+ years
