Outlast is one of the most horrific psychological survival gaming franchises of all time. This series by Red Barrels first made its debut in the gaming world in 2013. , Red Barrels, one of the most significant video game developers in the horror genre, and Lionsgate, the studio behind the popular SAW and John Wick franchises, have announced an agreement to adapt the Outlast horror series for the big screen.

The adaptation will be directed by Roy Lee, a prolific horror film producer (It, Barbarian, Late Night with the ******, Strange Darling). With over 37 million players worldwide, the critically acclaimed psychological horror game franchise has become a fan favorite. Lee will bring the same terrifying authenticity to the film.

The screenplay for the movie will be written by J.T. Petty (The Burrowers, Hellbenders), who is very involved with the plot of the games themselves. This is what Petty stated: “Red Barrels has been pushing the limits of horror in games for more than a decade, and expanding the Outlast Universe into film is an incredible opportunity to ***** deeper into the characters and killers we love.”
