While it’s true that Xbox has given us some incredible games, the last couple of years have been a poor run for its exclusives. However, today marks the tenth anniversary of an underrated Xbox title, Sunset Overdrive, which was even the ahead of Insomniac’s Marvel Spider-Man.

Debuting as an Xbox One exclusive, Insomniac Studios’ Sunset Overdrive brought players into a dystopian world where humankind is mutated into zombie-like creatures by an energy drink out of all things.

The main protagonist is tasked with rallying the survivors and fending off hordes of imaginative weapons that are clearly inspired by Insomniac’s Rachet & Clank Series.

Insomniac’s incredible shooter is 10 years old today, as it was released on October 28th, 2014. It’s still quite shocking that it’s been that long already, with Insomniac being acquired by Sony and crafting legendary Spider-Man games for PlayStation players in recent years.

so depressing this game only made a few hundred bucks of net profit when its easily the best new ip thats entered xbox during the xbox one era of that company

It’s great to see that we did get a taste of what an Insomniac exclusive on Xbox could look like, and it was quite an amazing game at the time.

Thanks to its punk-rock art style, which helped it stand out from the competition, it gained praise from gamers and critics alike. Unfortunately, its sales figures weren’t that impressive, with the game only shipping 1.9 million units.

While it’s still a fun game to dig into, the only issue is that Sunset Overdrive still doesn’t take advantage of the current-gen Xbox hardware. It’s still a game that targets the base Xbox One , and we haven’t heard anything about the game since its PC port way back in 2018. We only hope that

can partner up in some way with Insomniac and do justice to this game with Xbox Series S/X capabilities.

The Xbox Exclusive Isn’t Coming to PlayStation Either

Due to Sony’s acquisition of Insomniac, many expected that the developer might remaster Sunset Overdrive on PlayStation 5. However, all such possibilities have been shut down.

In a post about the game’s respawn animations, one user suggested that Insomniac should give Sunset Overdrive a port or remaster for PlayStation players. However, Insomniac revealed that it’s busy with Marvel’s Wolverine right now.

This makes it highly unlikely for PS5 Sunset Overdrive to be released, much to the disappointment of the title’s cult fanbase. Previously, rumors suggested that Insomniac was planning a Sunset Overdrive sequel.

However, this project was ultimately axed, and the reasons for this still aren’t clear, but it’s likely due to the fact the original game’s terrible sales ******* to capture the attention of gamers like the studio’s future titles.
