Aussies set for new skipper in Pakistan T20 series as Test guns get rested

*********** selectors are yet to decide on a new captain for a three-match T20 series against Pakistan next month, with Mitch Marsh set to be rested ahead of a big Test summer.

It comes as five WA products were named in the 13-man squad for the series, which will be played in Brisbane, Sydney and Hobart.

Perth Scorchers leadership group members Aaron Hardie and Josh Inglis will be in contention to be named as skipper, with fellow West Aussies Marcus Stoinis, Tim David and Cooper Connolly all in the squad.

Marsh and Travis Head – the two most recent players to captain Australia’s T20 side – will both miss the series in preparation for the Test series against India that starts later next month.

Quicks Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson have been recalled to the white-ball squad after recovering from injuries.

“This group of players have all represented Australia in T20 cricket, so we look forward to them continuing to enhance their international experience throughout this series,” chairman of selectors George Bailey said.

“We are excited by the mix of experience combined with those closer to the start of their international journeys.

“It is particularly encouraging to have Xavier, Spencer and Nathan back in the national set-up.

“It’s another opportunity for them to continue to show their ability on the international stage, as they have done in the past.”
