COOK COUNT, Ill. — A Cook County Corrections Deputy accused of possessing *****-soaked papers is facing new charges after authorities said she allegedly let an inmate at the Cook County jail use her phone to send messages and view ************.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, 54-year-old Shadonna Jones, who is a resident of Lynwood, is facing two new charges, including delivery of electronic contraband to an inmate of a penal institution by an employee and official misconduct.

The new charges were handed down following an investigation that began after Jones was allegedly found to be in possession of dozens of sheets of paper that had been soaked in suspected ******** drugs back in July.

Deputies said during an investigation into the alleged *****-soaked papers, a search warrant was ********* at Jones’ home.

During the search authorities allegedly found an envelope that contained 48 sheets of paper that were stained and had a gritty texture, which deputies said is a common indicator of the presence of ******** substances.

Authorities also allegedly found a letter addressed to Jones during the search which appeared to have been sent from someone in custody at the jail. In the letter, the author allegedly described selling the papers for $10,000 a page, adding that Jones would be paid $2,500 for each package of paper that she could bring into the Jail.

The papers were sent to the Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services for testing and later showed the presence of MDMB-BUTINACA, a synthetic cannabinoid.

During a meeting with investigators following the search, Jones said that she had allegedly received the papers from family members of an individual in custody, had been paid $1,000 to accept them, and said that they were intended to be delivered to someone in custody at the jail. Jones denied that she planned to deliver the paper.

An iPhone and an Android phone were also found and seized during the search.

The investigation continued and following a forensic examination of the Android phone, it was revealed that an individual in custody had allegedly used the phone to access pornographic websites, take selfies and chat on

Investigators were also able to obtain records for Jones’ iPhone which allegedly revealed that she had exchanged text messages with the Android user during a shift at the Jail.

Jones had been hired as a deputy in June of 2019 but had been on “injured on duty” status since July 15, after receiving an injury while attempting to stop a ****** between two inmates. She was de-deputized on July 25 after her interview with investigators following her arrest in connection with the suspected *****-soaked papers.

Jones appeared in court on Thursday where she was arraigned on the original *****-related charges as well as the new charges.
