Lance Morris, Jhye Richardson show out for premier cricket outfits to build bowling loads

Western Australia sent its two stud paceman back to club cricket on Sunday because their bowling innings in Friday’s historic one-day thumping lasted less than nine overs.

Lance Morris played for Scarborough and Jhye Richardson for Fremantle in the second round of Premier Cricket Twenty20 matches on Sunday to maintain their loads ahead of what WA officials hope will be a return to red-ball cricket.

Morris took 0-35 for the Gulls against Midland-Guilford, while Richardson bowled a remarkably measly spell and went for just nine runs in his four overs.

Richardson went wicketless, but opened the bowling with WA and Perth Scorchers teammate Ashton Turner, who took 3-11 from three in a five-wicket win after they restricted Claremont-Nedlands to 9-75.

It is the second time Richardson has played for Fremantle already this season as Cricket Australia staff nurse him back to full fitness.

The West *********** understands Morris is in the mix to head to Hobart for a Sheffield Shield clash with Tasmania from Friday.

The tearaway quick bowled just 15 ****** against Tasmania on Friday and took 1-20. Richardson opened the bowling and was blasted for 0-25 from his two overs.

It came in a record-breaking defeat where WA were bowled out for 53, having been 2-52, losing their final eight wickets for one run and with six players making ducks.

Joel Paris, who was the only other bowler used on Friday, bowled 10 overs for Claremont-Nedlands in a one-day match against Midland-Guilford on Saturday, but was parked from their Twenty20 match on Sunday.

The left-armer, who played his first domestic game of the summer on Friday after battling a calf injury, took 1-47 from his 10 overs.

WA are expected to make at least six changes from the red-ball team that defeated Tasmania at the WACA Ground last week.

Mitch Marsh is on paternity leave, Corey Rocchiccioli, Cooper Connolly and Cam Bancroft are on Australia A duties and Josh Inglis and Aaron Hardie are a part of Australia’s squad for a one-day international series against Pakistan.
