Bulls tamed while caught up in an NBA Thunder storm

*********** Josh Giddey’s first NBA clash against his former club has ended in disappointment, with his new side Chicago suffering a 114-95 home loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Giddey finished with 14 points and seven rebounds in his first game against the Thunder since an off-season trade to Chicago for Alex Caruso.

Oklahoma granted Giddey’s request to be dealt after his role in the playoffs was reduced.

The Aussie spent 26 minutes on court for the Bulls and also contributed four assists on Saturday (Sunday AEDT).

Caruso, a popular player during his three seasons with the Bulls, got a standing ovation and waved to the crowd during an early timeout. He checked into the game late in the first quarter and finished with three points in 22 minutes.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 23 points and Chet Holmgren added 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for the Thunder. Jalen Williams added 24 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Zach LaVine had 22 points and nine rebounds for Chicago. Nikola Vucevic added 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Chicago never found a rhythm after rolling past Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks in Milwaukee on Friday. The Bulls shot 34.8 per cent overall and made just 15 of 53 three-pointers.

In San Antonio, *********** Jock Landale had 13 points and two rebounds as his visiting Houston Rockets pushed the home side before the Spurs won a thriller 109-106.

Victor Wembanyama scored 29 points, and Jeremy Sochan added 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs.

Wembanyama added seven rebounds and three blocks while ********* 10-for-17 from the field.

After trailing by 22 points in the first half, Houston were within one possession for much of the final minutes. The Rockets went on a 21-8 run in the opening six minutes of the final quarter, turning an 18-point deficit into a 95-90 lead for San Antonio.

Jalen Green had 27 points for Houston, Fred VanVleet added 18 and Dillon Brooks had 16.

In Minneapolis, Julius Randle had 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists as the Timberwolves beat the visiting Toronto Raptors 112-101.

Anthony Edwards also scored 24 for Minnesota, while Rudy Gobert added 15 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.

Toronto’s Gradey ***** led all scorers with 25 points, while Scottie Barnes had 20 points and Ochai Agbaji added 19 for the Raptors.

*********** Joe Ingles had one rebound and four assists during his six minutes on court.

In Detroit, reigning champions Boston maintained their perfect start to the season, beating the winless Pistons 124-118.

There were also victories for the Clippers, who scored a 109-104 win on the road against Denver, and the travelling Cavaliers trounced the Washington Wizards 135-116.

In other results, Miami beat Charlotte 114-106, Memphis accounted for Orlando 124-111, and Phoenix scored a 114-102 win over the visiting Dallas Mavericks.

And in Los Angeles, the Lakers had to withstand a tremendous challenge to secure a 131-127 win over the visiting Sacramento Kings.
