AFLW 2024: Fremantle Dockers’ top-four hopes given life after Adelaide fall to North Melbourne

Kuwarna’s (Adelaide) defeat to North Melbourne on Friday night has left the door open for Walyalup (Fremantle) to storm into the top four.

The Crows lost 4.9 (33) to 6.5 (41) at Norwood Oval, leaving them on seven wins with a round to play.

The Dockers face the lowly-ranked Greater Western Sydney on Saturday at Henson Park and Western Bulldogs in Fremantle next week to round out their season.

A win against the Giants would lift the Dockers into fourth if both Brisbane lose to Sydney and Richmond lose to Essendon, but will position them for a final-round ******** at a double chance regardless.

The Dockers will be firmly in the frame for a spot in the four if they can boost their percentage of 125.1 across the next two weeks.

Walyalup haven’t finished higher than 12th in a full 18-team competition and have not had a double chance since they finished first in 2020 before the finals were scrapped amid the pandemic.

The club did not take a risk with star vice-captain Hayley Miller and her lingering calf issue this week.

It is just one of a string of injuries that have plagued the Dockers’ campaign.

Webb remained coy on her team’s finals hopes this week, insisting they weren’t getting carried away by the dangling carrot.

“I’ve only ever focused really on that next game and GWS are really important. We know the style of footy they can play,” she said this week.

The Kangaroos’ victory on the road keeps them on top of the ladder as the league’s only undefeated side.
